American Literature: Poetry

by Barbara Blakey

This module covers 30 American poets (listed below), teaches students how to read poetry, and provides lesson plans for three levels: Advanced placement, regular high school, and overview.  Students learn seven important steps for appreciating poetry as well as the vocabulary relevant to understanding it.  Plan eight and ten weeks for completion.  There is no additional text to purchase; however, outside resources are necessary.  Internet access is recommended; utilizing the library will be essential.  We recommend reading How to Read Slowly by James Sire.
